A FIFE Council apprentice has won APSE apprentice of the year for the second year running. Joiner John Deacon has been named best in Scotland at the Association of Public Sector Excellence (APSE) Scottish awards. John won the title of Best 2nd year Apprentice and the overall winner award at last week's Awards Ceremony in Peebles.
The APSE award follows success for John at Fife Council’s own Apprentice Awards where he won Best 2nd Year Apprentice award.
John said: “I am honoured to receive this award. I feel that during my apprenticeship I have achieved many personal goals including improved self-confidence. Working with skilled joiners and for them to allow me the time and patience required to complete tasks on my own, has allowed me to believe in my ability more than I ever have before.”
“I have now set the bar for myself and I will do my utmost to surpass my own expectations in my third year.”
John has excelled both at college and in the workplace; his progress and standard of work has exceeded all expectations.
Alan Hill, Housing Maintenance Manager commented: “Building Services pride themselves on the quality of our apprentices and John is one of the best, he is without doubt a model apprentice and I am sure will continue to be successful.”
Councillor Tony Martin, Ambassador for Youth Employment congratulated John on his success: “John is a very worthy winner of this award and follows in the footsteps of successful apprentices from Fife Council over the last six years. The fact a Fife Council apprentice has won this award two years running speaks volumes about the dedication of those responsible for this apprentice scheme.”
