Early years and childcareWhat happens to children in their earliest years says much about our society and is key to outcomes achieved in later life. It is during pre-birth and our very earliest years that a large part of the pattern for our future adult life is set. A wide range of research from education, health, justice and economic experts provides evidence to support the importance of early experiences.

In Fife, there is a very positive profile for our early years services. The quality of our nurseries and partner providers has been recognised by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education (HMIe) and Care Commission (now known as Social Care and Social Work Improvement Scotland-SCSWIS)

Fife has a well established Educational Home Visiting Service which supports parents and children when a child has additional support needs identified at an early age.

The Scottish Government Early Years Framework sets out the case for action with regard to the early years and early intervention along with the transformational change required to deliver the vision of giving all our children the best start in life.

There is a strong commitment in Fife across services and agencies to work together on a shared vision for improving outcomes for children and families through a focus on early years and early intervention. For more information on how services work together towards a shared vision for our youngest children, please visit the Early Years Strategy Group page.
