Apply for a bus pass (myfife card)
You can apply for a National Entitlement card (known in Fife as a myfife card) if you are resident in Scotland and:
- You are aged 60 or over, or will be 60 within the next 2 weeks, or
- You are a disabled person and meet with one of the criteria specified by Transport Scotland, or
- You are a young person between the ages of 16-18 or a full time volunteer up to age 26
How to apply you are aged 60 or over
Phone 03451 550066 to arrange an appointment to register. Please don't make this appointment more than 2 weeks before your 60th birthday.
Appointments are carried out face to face at your Local Council Office and we will take your photograph for you. There is no need to fill in a form, just bring proof of your age and address with you:
Proof of age
- Birth certificate
- Driving licence
Proof of address
- Utility bill (dated within the last 3 months)
- Bank letter (dated within the last 3 months)
- Current television licence
- Benefit letter
- Council tax bill
Once you have registered, your myfife card will be sent to your home address within 2 weeks.
How do I qualify if I have a disability
You will qualify if you are resident in Scotland, aged 5 or over and meet with one of the following criteria:
You receive higher rate of the mobility component or higher or middle rate of the personal care component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA). You will need your benefit award letter from the Department of Work and Pension, which must be dated within the last year. Please note - if you are in receipt of low rate of the mobility or personal care component of DLA you will not be eligible for concessionary travel under this category - although you may be able to apply under another category.
You receive standard or enhanced rate of Personal Independence Payment (PIP). You will need your benefit award letter from the Department of work and Pension, which must be dated within the last year. (If your award letter is more than one year old you also need your current yearly update letter)
You receive Attendance Allowance or Constant Attendance Allowance. You will need your benefit award letter from the Department of work and pension, which must be dated within the last year.
You live in a care or residential home or hospital. You need a letter from your residential home or hospital confirming that this is your permanent residency.
You are a Blue Badge holder - you need to present your blue badge - you can find out more about the Blue Badge Scheme here.
You are profoundly or severely deaf. Your hearing loss must be bilateral and greater than or equal to 70 dBHLs averaged over 1, 2 and 4KHz. Either call 01592 583370 or email us at email@example.com so we can request an audiology report from your audiologist or let us know if you are a British Sign Language user. If you have been deaf since birth you can submit a letter from your GP.
You are registered blind or registered partially sighted with Insight. Please contact us on the details below and your registration with Insight will be confirmed.
You have been told not to drive on medical grounds (other than on the grounds of drug or alcohol misuse). You need your confirmation letter from DVLA refusing/revoking your licence dated within the last year, along with the medical advisor’s report.
You are aged 16 or over and are unable to drive due to epilepsy - call 01592 583370 or go to your Local Council Office to request a certificate, or download an epilepsy certificate NCT003 . This certificate needs to be completed by your Hospital Consultant, GP or Epilepsy Specialist Nurse.
You have a mental illness or personality disorder that is recognised under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 and has lasted for more than a year. (You must need to travel to health or social care appointments as part of treatment activities, care or rehabilitation programme and your ability to travel must also be impaired by your mental health condition.) Call 01592 583370, go to your Local Council Office to request certificate NCT002 or download a mental health certificate NCT002 . The certificate needs to be completed by the health care professional treating your mental health issue (not your GP).
You have a learning disability and you need to travel to see a Support Worker or get to appointments or activities. Call 01592 583370, go to your Local Council Office to request certificate NCT002a or download a learning difficulties certificate - NCT002a. You have a terminal illness. You either need your award notice that shows you receive higher or middle rate of Disability Living Allowance, Personal Independence Payment or Attendance Allowance, a DS1500 report, hospice admittance letter or confirmation that you are registered on a Scottish hospice register.
You have a progressive degenerative condition. Conditions such as Parkinson's Disease can impede your mobility. Ask your hospital consultant to provide a letter confirming that your condition is considered ‘progressive degenerative and that it severely impedes your mobility and ability to carry out day to day activities’. You have lost one or more limbs. If you have lost one or both legs, both arms or an arm and a leg you are entitled to apply. Request a letter from your prosthetic clinic/centre, physiotherapist or rehabilitation centre for your application.
You are an injured veteran with mobility problems. You will qualify if you have received a lump sum benefit under the Armed Forces and Compensation Scheme within tariff levels 1 - 8 (inclusive) and the Secretary of State certifies that you have a permanent and substantial disability which causes inability to walk or very considerable difficulty in walking. You will need to produce a certification letter from the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency. You will also qualify under the same criteria if your injuries do not hinder your mobility but the injury can be cross referenced to the descriptors within the AFCS Injuries Table (this link will take you to an external website).
You receive a War Pensioner Mobility Supplement. You will need your award letter from the Veterans Agency or Ministry of Defence.
How to apply if I meet the disability criteria
If you qualify under the above criteria and can provide the appropriate documentation, or if you have received a letter confirming eligibility from the Concessionary Travel Team, please phone 03451 550066 to arrange an appointment to register.

Proof of eligibility
- Your award letter confirming your Disability Living Allowance DLA, Personal Independence Payment PIP, Attendance Allowance, War Pension Mobility Supplement, DVLA refusal or your Blue Badge.
- If you are hearing impaired, please contact the Concessionary Travel Team before registering so we can confirm your entitlement with your audiologist.
- If you are visually impaired, please contact the Concessionary Travel Team before registering so we can confirm your registration with Insight.
- If you are aged 16 or over and because of your epilepsy you are unable to drive, if you suffer from a mental health condition that impairs your travel or you have a learning difficulty and have to travel to appointments or support groups, then download the eligibility certificate, or contact Fife Council to request one. This needs to be approved by the Concessionary Travel Team before you register.
- If you have a progressive degenerative disorder, please submit a consultant's letter for approval from the Concessionary Travel Team before you register.
Once you have registered, your myfife card will be sent to your home address within 2 weeks.
If you have a "+1" symbol on your card then you are entitled to:
- a companion travelling, free of charge on the same bus journey as yourself throughout Scotland
- a companion travelling with you for half fare on rail journeys between any 2 Fife stations during off peak times
You do not need to travel with a companion, but the entitlement is there when you need it.
You will get a "+1" symbol on your card if you meet one of the following criteria:
- You receive Higher or middle rate of the personal care component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
- You receive Standard or enhanced rate of the daily living component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- You receive Attendance Allowance or Constant Attendance Allowance

YOUNG SCOT National Entitlement Card
If you already have a myfife card and are aged between 16 - 18 or are a full time volunteer aged between 19 and 25, you can use this on the bus to receive 1/3 off single adult fares on almost all local and long-distance buses in Scotland.
Your card also gives you 1/3rd of most rail fares, 1/3 off most advance purchases and 50% of all weekly or monthly tickets for travel throughout Scotland.

- Q. How do I get a Young Scot card?
Anyone between the ages of 12 and 25 can apply for for a myfife National Entitlement card.
If you are aged between 16 and 18 or if you are aged between 19 and 25 and volunteer for a minimum of 30 hours per week your card gives you a discount on bus and train travel in Scotland.
If you have never had a myfife card you should phone 03451 550066 to arrange an appointment to register for your card.

You may have had a myfife card before, but if your appearance has changed significantly and you are having problems using your card because of this, you can have your photograph updated - phone 03451 550066 to make an appointment to have your photograph retaken.
